Back to Class [W]

Well. I have had three days of class so far and I think things are going well. While everyone around me seems to be frantically racing to get things done, I am leaning back and enjoying my first week back in computer science bliss. That's right. Sure, next week will be busy and so will the week after, but for now I am easing back into the fact that I have more things challenging my consciousness at irregular intervals throughout the day.

That being said... I/we/my desk at work received a new chair on Tuesday. This will be the third chair that I have had there since I started working there almost a year ago. The first one wasn't bad... but I more or less destroyed it over the summer. I have a tendancy to lean to one side while resting and well... the chair basically snapped. I didn't mind it's tilt, but when September rolled around and I wasn't the only one there anymore, well they brought in this hideous (in appearance and comfort) blue chair that was a danger to everyone. Regardless to say, that is gone with the purchase of a new chair that I hope not to break. We'll see.

I have decided that I would like to buy an MP3/CD player. I have a good number of mp3s and with the purchase of my new headphones I am screaming for a good audio source. Oh and my Dad is coming up and I am going to see him tomorrow... not that it concerns anyone, but FYI. :) Cheers.

School Week I [W]

Well that was one week more or less over and done with. I have no interest in school right now, I think that whole month off thing has left me in a bit of a lazy, apathetic state which I have no intention of leaving. Now that that is established I can revel in even more mundane issues like laundry which needs to be done if I actually want to wear socks tomorrow.

It seems that with the new photos threads in the forum (which if you haven't seen you really should - you will need a membership though) I have been neglecting my updates detailing the painful details of my life. I know that some people are reading it though and I would hate to disappoint my audience.

I have noticed in my limited experience with "web logs" (which despite my best effort is what this site is becoming) people really respond to postings about relationships - I'm sure that just mentioning it will invoke some reaction out of everyone. So if everyone is listening - there is a girl that I like (Oooooooh). She sort of came out of nowhere. Obviously she didn't just appear, but as far as I'm concerned she did. Of course, in keeping with my usual style I don't actually express this interest to her but keep it bottled up - probably resulting in a loss of opportunity - as is what always has occured in the past. :) I have also realized that CS students are not generally the people you want to be going to for relationship advice, so despite all of my seeking, I don't seem to be any closer to an answer now then I ever was. :P

Lets see what the wolves think of that fresh piece of meat. It almost makes me wish I had wanted to implement responses to these comments. :) Oh well, people can always USE MY FORUM if they want to speak their mind. Cheers and have a good weekend :)

Different Tune [W]

Yea, you can say that my work situation has caught up with the rest of the world and I can no longer bask in my former apathy. But, the summer will be here soon, so I'll get my chance yet. It is funny that I always do this write up after I have sworn that I will go to bed early, only to realize that once I'm done that I am likely in for another tired day tomorrow. That being said, at least I am not getting up early to run - although I do have to go to work.

You will all be pleased to know that I have diliberated for a long while and with some consultation with my support staff, I think I am going to "go for it" and let that girl I was talking about before know how I feel. Of course, I don't really know what to do from there, but I am hoping that will just kind of work itself out. I also don't have the stones to do this in person, so it will be in my traditional email format. :) God, just thinking about this makes me feel like I'm in high school/junior high again - back when I was even worse at this then I am now.

I just watched Resident Evil again - this time on the computer. I have it in VCD format and the quality is pretty good - it still captures the mood of the movie properly. Other than the fact that this is actually a pretty cool movie, (let me know if you want a copy) I'm pretty sure it hasn't even hit theatres in my hometown yet (if it ever will). The Internet is a wonderful thing. :)

rhuvok out.

Discrete Site [W]

I have realized that while I enjoy many social endeavors, I am truly at peace in front of a computer. I know that some people might think that is sad. To them I say suck it. This public service annoucement has been brought to you by my computer.

As the Saga unfolds, our hero finds himself conflicted and trapped in a pit full of zombies. Fortunately, our brave warrior has remembered his zombie stick and is kicking some serious undead ass. Once free from that burden he will venture forth to conquer what remains to oppose him. One force however proves almost too strong for our hero at the moment - attractive female. He takes a deep breath and steps forward to face his fears... (to be continued)

Does anyone know what the expected lifetime of an optical mouse is? I have had my Dexxa optical mouse for almost a year and a half now and I am curious if the slight jitter it is experiencing on occasion is old age or mild epilepsy on my part. I have nothing but praise for my $34 optical mouse, but if it is her time to go, then I have no problems looking for a replacement.

CS Pub Crawl [W]

I think that for someone who doesn't drink, I am spending a lot of money going to bars and on pub crawls. Oh well, I do have a good time so I guess that is why. It does seem that my pub crawl enthusiasm is dropping slightly. My first pub crawl I was there from something like 5 for the GeekBeer until the Palace at some unholy hour in the morning. Whereas yesterday I was at the GeekBeer for an hour and then I skipped two bars and went to Pacifico around 10pm. Then I skipped JJ's and headed to Reflections at 1am. OK, yes I was finishing up an assignment that was due at midnight, but the same thing happened on the recent Glengary pub crawl... only 2.5 bars visited. Not that I suspect that this will develop into a problem, it was something that I had noticed.

If you follow my forum, you will know that the Saga has ended. If you haven't heard, then you should probably go read it, because I don't really want to repeat myself.

Assignments are still coming on strong. I'm not exactly sure how many are left, but I will tell you I am looking forward to this summer. Anyway, I must go and work on my presentation for Comm. Skills. Grrr. :P

Renovations [W]

Please be patient with me as I play around with the layout of this front page. This is something that I tend to do every so often because I am picky and I bore easily. My goal was to have the menu be more consistent - not two formats. With that done, I of course had to remodel everything.

For those who may be concerned, my Comm. Skills presentation went well, very well in fact. Now we only have one more thing to pass in for that course and we are FINISHED! I can finally get some rest after completing an assignment that was due at midnight. I did get it finished and decided that now was the best time to watch Atlanis. So I did. Now I can hardly see because I am so tired.

I have also joined the wireless age and I bought my very own cellphone. This was part of a promotion that AML Communications was holding (Rogers AT&T). The number is the same as it was before, only 441 not 422. I am on a pretty big potential spending spree right now. I have interest in picking up a new digital camera. A fairly nice one, flash, 2+ megapizels - you know, something reasonable

Sweet Victory [W]

NO MORE COMM. SKILLS! *victory dance* That is really all that needs to be said in order to understand how I am feeling right now. Oh and no more Discrete Structures! Not that a year with Janssen as a prof wasn't exciting, but I am certainly glad that I won't have to use that awful textbook anymore. On a related note, does anyone want to buy a used Discrete text book. It is in fine condition - considering that it is full of poorly written discrete mathematics questions. The real bitch of it all is that it costs like $140 or something insane like that - yours for only $65!! Anyway... whatever.

Not much to report these days that isn't school related. I am seriously looking forward to some hardcore web development this summer. Expect big changes to my web site and possibly more. :)

Zoolander was an interesting movie. Funny in a way that you seem to be laughing at the actors, not with them. Overall however, not a movie that I regret seeing so therefore it is just fine by me.

Home Stretch [W]

painted annaI know that most people have seen it, but that is my painted computer case in the picture on the left. I have just spent the last little while here in the CSB trying to waste my print credits while I still have them this term. I am making "signs" that I can... hang up somewhere I guess. It will more likely amount to having more paper cluttering up my room and whatnot. Oh well.

If anyone is wondering what they can get me for my birthday, I would recommend a Titanium PowerBook G4 - the $3700 USD one with the gig of RAM and 48GB hard drive - not to mention it has a SLOT LOADING combo drive. It's a it bit pricy... so maybe you can all pitch in together and buy it - I won't mind. But seriously - that is one sweet machine. Some of you Windows people might be wondering why I want an Apple computer... well take a look and tell me what you think.... bearing in mind that I am a graphics/animation/music person and I love to design things. Yummy.

Tomorrow (Thursday) is my last day at work as a part-time employee. Starting Monday I will be full time - and I get to work from 4:30 to 11:30pm - just after my AI exam. However my regular shift is 8:30 - 4:30 which is a bit more reasonable. My job does not involve me talking to the public face-to-face anymore and I am going to be thankful for that break. After a year of helping people with searching for apartments and such, I will be glad to focus on just doing reservations on the phone.

Back to Work [W]

I guess it is clear that I am done exams. The C exam was easy - three programming questions. The AI exam was a bit trickier only based on the fact that there was one question that I more or less had to make up. Considering however, that I did not attend that class once we started AI, I think that I did very well. I certainly believe that the success to effort ratio will be high. It certainly does feel good though to know that classes are over and that I don't have to worry about assignments or exams... of course soon we'll get our marks and I will see just how worried I should have been. :)

On the other side of that coin, I started work yesterday - after my exam. Yes starting at 4:30 and working diligently until 11:30, I completed my first day of my summer job, which is basically like my school year job only with more problems and craziness. We are still frought with computer troubles - more specifically database troubles when trying to have various users - some of whom are in Fenwick - use the same reservation software

Another change in my life is that I have two new roommates. Both are of sonar! fame, users Krafty and mike. They aren't here for the whole summer, but I think that it will be a good month or two while they are here.

Not that it is an immediate concern, because I have backup plans, but my borg space (where I host rhuvok.com) is running preciously low on space - not actual file size, but in the number of files that I am allowed to have. All of those pictures, while they aren't big, start to add up after a while too. I may start hosting some things on my brother's server... so if you notice any lag for somethings, that might be why. I'll let you know if I do anything drastic.
