Brand new start [N]

The ability for me to add content dynamically is now in place. That is why you are reading this... it is stored in the database, which I am also happy to announce will hold 65,000+ characters instead of just 2000. This is a significant improvement and I hope to do a lot more with it. Cheers.

A Couple of Features [N]

Some may have noticed that I now have the members page up - sure you can only change your password there, but that is an important part of it. Also, now when you sign up for an account your password is actually sent to you now, as opposed to not sending it. Sorry to those people who signed up before I got this problem fixed. I think that's about it for now... cheers.

Trouble with email... [N]

I seem to be having some trouble with my email being sent out to people. I will work on this as soon as I can. Until then... no more sign ups. I will keep you posted. Cheers

I think it's OK [N]

To the best of my knowledge, people were still getting their emails... Rage did. So my guess is that if you didn't get it... it might have had something to do with places like hotmail filtering it out as junk mail or something. If you sign up and don't receive email within a few minutes then let me know. (bate@cs.dal.ca) Cheers.

Sounds Good [N]

I have finished the interface with the songs database, which is now available from the menu on the left as Sounds of GA44. For those wondering... GA44 stands for Glengary Apartments, Apt. 44 which is where I live :)

Neighbourly Love

Unfortunately, I am not talking about the great neighbours we have here on the fourth floor of Glengary. I am alluding to the new neighbour we have just across Robie St. I must say that he isn't there a whole lot, which is really quite unfortunate. My roommate Chris and I think that he is really cool - and we are always happy to see him come home. I guess you could say we are equally excited when he leaves too. Unfortunately the neighbours don't really like him that much - because you have to admit, he does make a fair bit of noise in his travels.

Now that I have sufficiently killed that introduction, you may or may not be expecting that our new neighbour is a helicopter. (I bet the picture helped you.) In any case it is true... the hospital across the way behind our apartment building now has a heli-pad.

We knew that they were building something. There had been a rather large crane out there since we moved in. Now however, the crane is gone but there is a helicopter to replace it. Sure it makes a lot of noise... but I think it is great. I makes me feel like I am in the middle of something when it takes off. I personally am just glad that I am a heavy sleeper.

I know that at some point in the future I may grow to hate the helicopter... but until then it is a cool addition to the neighbourhood.

Floor Warz

The date was Saturday February 16, 2002. The location was MicMac Mall in Dartmouth, NS. From 3 until 5pm breakdancers from all across the metro area assembled to showcase their talents and battle for the title of best break dancing school in an event known as Floor Warz.

Break dancersWith 5 groups entering, each team started off with a five minute demostration to seat the teams going into the team battles. Music was masterfully presented by Halifax's Scratch Bastard and provided for an authentic feel to the whole event.

The groups were: The Vehicles of Mayhem, The Five Elements, Prince Andrew's Omega, Prince Andrew's Beta, and Synonymous with Anonymous. After the demonstration, my pick was with the two Prince Andrews teams, with an edge towards Beta.

More dancersBetween sessions, entertainment was provided by the Lokdown Crew, a group of excellent breakdancers from the region. Battles ensued with Vehicles of Mayhem up against Omega, and Five Elements up against Beta. From those we had two contenders for top spot - Five Elements and Omega. The competition was rough and the rivalry was intense. For another five minutes these two teams tried to out do each other with everything from impressive stalls and flips to obvious taunting. In the end though there can only be one winner. Congratulations go out to Prince Andrew's Omega for winning this year's Floor Warz.

And thank Floor Warz for giving me a reason to leave my apartment on a Saturday and get out and see some great performances. Cheers to everyone involved.

Another milestone!

I don't think that anyone but Mark will be interested, but we have finally passed the 150000 mark for RMS IDs. :)
